Troop 591 Named Sandy Beach Champs!

Troop 591 was recently named the Sandy Beach Champs for Week 7 by the Sandy Beach staff at Yawgoog Scout Reservation in Rockville, RI.

Yawgoog2013-002Each week, the camp staff honors 1 Troop from each camp as the champion Troop of the week. The winning Troop is decided based on a number of factors – including Troop Spirit, participation in camp activities, the Troop Tournament, the Bake-Off, Scavenger Hunt and other inter-Troop activities.

Proving that you don’t have to be a big Troop to make a big impact, Troop 591 won the award with only 9 Scouts in camp. In spite of our small size (the runner-up Troop had 60 Scouts in camp), we sure made a lot of noise!  The Troop was often leading songs and cheers, we were first to show off our talents during the Week 7 Talent Show, we handed out close to 1,000 Moose, Beaver and Banana buttons, our Troop Bell was ringing loud and clear, we fried up 100 lbs of potatoes and smoked a lot of meat for our friends & neighbors, our Scoutmasters splashed with panache and we were the only Troop with a 16-foot tall guitar player named Steve.

While this is our first win as Sandy Beach Champs, our Troop has a history of being one of the most spirited Troops in camp. We have been named Edwin’s Troop of the Week (Troop Spirit Award) twice and have had 2 of our Scouts win the J. Harold Williams Award for Scout Spirit.

Congratulations to Senior Patrol Leader Alex Casperson and all the Scouts in Troop 591 for a most excellent summer adventure!
