Kayaking Umbagog

Down the AndroscogginNow that our Scouts have “survived” the last trip, it’s time to start preparation for our final trip of the year – Kayaking on Lake Umbagog.

This trip is sure to be one of the highlights of the 2013/2014 Scouting year. We last trekked on Lake Umbagog in 2011 and it was certainly one of the most memorable trips we’ve taken together as a Troop.

This year’s trip will be a 3-night adventure (June 20 – June 23) using campsites managed by New Hampshire’s Umbagog Lake State Park. We will be leaving Friday,  June 20 (the last day of school!) and camping overnight at the main campground on the south shore of the lake. We’ll load the boats and paddle to the northern end of the lake on Saturday. Sunday we’ll explore the lake and the confluence of the Androscoggin and Magalloway rivers before our final night on the eastern shore.  We’ll paddle back to the campground on Monday morning for the ride home.

In order to finalize the trip plans and equipment rental, we need to have your reservation for this trip at this Wednesday’s meeting (May 28)!

We are anticipating costs of approximately $150/person, but we won’t be able to finalize the costs until we have the final headcount.  We are asking for a deposit of $50 to secure your reservation for this trip.

Space is limited to 16 paddlers on this trip due to the capacity limit of the group campsites. First priority will go to the Scouts and we’ll accommodate parents who wish to join the trip if we have space available.

I know some of our Scouts are in Washington DC next week.  If you are planning on attending the trip, but won’t be at the meeting, please send me an email with your reservation request.

Don’t miss out on this fantastic trip! Get those reservations in this week!!
