Opportunity: SOAR Jamboree

Hello Scouts and Parents;

As always, Scouting offers many opportunities and here’s another one.   SOAR (Scouting’s Outdoor Adventure on the River) is coming this Fall (details below).   This will be a BIG council wide event, with estimations of some 5-7 thousand Scouts getting together in Boston.

If this is something you and the troop are interested in, lets make a decision soon.   Advanced planning is required for this event.

Scouting is a movement that is dedicated to building citizenship, character, and fitness in young people. For most children and young adults involved in Scouting, the majority of their life-changing adventures happen locally in their Scouting Unit. The opportunity to participate in an event that clearly demonstrates that they are part of something bigger is rare and for many youth inaccessible.

Scouting’s Outdoor Adventure on the River gives kids the opportunity to experience being part of the Scouting Movement. Whether camping for the weekend or joining us for the day on the banks of the Charles River at Christian Herter Park, participants will have the opportunity to share their spirit with thousands of others.

On October 8-10, 2016 nearly 10,000 participants (Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Venturers, Explorers, Leaders, and families) will gather in the city of Boston to experience the excitement of Scouting and show the world that Scouting makes a difference in the lives of young people.

Scouting makes the difference by presenting opportunities in the form of a game or adventure. At SOAR participants will get to experience the game that is Scouting through such activities as:

  • Climbing and Traversing Monkey Bridges
  • Sliding down Zip-lines
  • Completing Obstacle Course Challenges
  • Building Wood Crafts
  • Exploring STEM Activities
  • Showing off their skills in the outdoors, or maybe pick up a new one
  • Paddling or rowing a boat on the Charles River
  • Watching and listening to live entertainment on the giant stage all weekend long
  • Viewing our own personal Fireworks Show
  • Participating in over 250 Activities
  • Enjoying 100 Acres and 2 miles of Shore line at the beautiful Christian Herter Park
  • Visiting 3 different Program Villages
  • Creating and sharing memories with Scouts from all across New England and beyond that will last a life time
  • And so much more….

Troops, Crews, Ships and Posts, are encouraged to campout for the weekend. Camp sites will be provided along the banks of the Charles River. All units that are camping bring and prepare their own meals. Concession stands will be available on-site.
